# NFT Blends

### **What is an NFT Blend?**

An **NFT blend** (often called NFT crafting) is a process where you **combine two or more specific NFTs to create a new, different NFT**. When you blend NFTs, the original digital assets are usually permanently destroyed. In return, smart contracts automatically generate and send a new, typically rarer asset to your crypto wallet.

### **How it Works**

1. **The Recipe:** Creators set specific requirements (e.g., "You need some Common NFT and some Uncommon NFT").
2. **The Burn:** You select those required NFTs from your wallet and send them to the blending smart contract.
3. **The Reward:** The original NFTs are destroyed, and you receive a new, upgraded NFT (e.g., a "Rare" NFT).

### **Why Creators and Collectors Use Blending**

* **Gamification:** It makes collecting more interactive, like a video game where you craft better gear.
* **Scarcity:** By destroying older NFTs to make new ones, it reduces the total supply, making the remaining original NFTs more valuable.
* **Value Upgrade:** It allows collectors to turn multiple low-value items into one high-value item.

We have previously looked at all the NFT templates, and for these, we examined the Materials, the Quantum Chests, and the Quantum Keys.

These are the key elements for starting to execute a blend in Planetary Defense.

We have mentioned on several occasions that there are "**Main NFTs**." These NFTs are the result of Blends and serve as the primary NFTs for launching game missions and accessing Discord-based utilities.

As Main NFT we mean:

<p align="center"><strong>Warlord, Mercenary, Equipment, Creatures, Services, Supplies</strong></p>

Now let's see how to create these NFTs, each representing one of the six in-game rarity levels (see the [templates section](/guide/getting-started/what-is-planetary-defense/nft-templates.md) for the complete list of NFTs):

<p align="center"><strong>Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythic</strong></p>

Imagine we want to craft an Epic NFT. Let's take an example:

<figure><img src="https://content.gitbook.com/content/6kbcVlkhhuJRfUuLf7Tt/blobs/KIUv0qvmPlIxIdQWmsab/image%20(173).png" alt="" width="375"><figcaption><p>EPIC MERCENARY, PROTECTOR TYPE</p></figcaption></figure>

As previously explained, to obtain this Mercenary, we must use the appropriate Blend recipe.

Currently, we have three tools for viewing recipes and performing the blend:

* **The Hub:** <https://hub.planetarydefense.io/index.html>
* **The Multi Tool:** <https://planetary-defense-multi-tool.vercel.app/>&#x20;
* **The F12 Marketplace:** <https://f12key.eu/collection/planetdefnft>

The choice of one tool over the other makes no difference; the result will always be the targeted NFT. Therefore, there is no advantage to using one tool rather than another, aside from purely personal preference for one platform over another.

Let's assume we are using the Hub. We have already seen that there is a section dedicated to [the blend](/guide/getting-started/what-is-planetary-defense/nft-blends.md).

Open the Hub and select the NFT you want to craft from the list.

<figure><img src="https://content.gitbook.com/content/6kbcVlkhhuJRfUuLf7Tt/blobs/eiGoVLPyrEtDuYZBmdGL/image%20(174).png" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

You can see the Materials needed to craft this Mercenary:

* 2 Epic Compressed Etherium Liquid
* 2 Epic Concentrated Neon Core
* 2 Exalted Plasmo-Fibers
* 2 Modified Synthetic Carbon

Another feature is that it tells us if we already have any of those Materials and marks the missing ones in red.

## **Right. Now that I know the recipe, how do I get the materials?**

The Materials can be obtained in two ways:

* buying them on various marketplaces
* obtaining them from the "Opening" blend category

The purchase seems pretty straightforward: you just need to go to any marketplace (e.g., Atomichub), select the **Planetary Defense collection**, select the "**Material**" category, and **buy** what you need.

Let's assume, however, that we want to craft them from scratch.

## **Where do these materials come from?**

The Materials are divided into two main groups:

* Common, Uncommon and Rare
* Epic, Legendary and Mythic

To obtain a Material from the first group, select the Opening category in the Hub or MultiTool and simply open a **Quantum Chest**.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="https://content.gitbook.com/content/6kbcVlkhhuJRfUuLf7Tt/blobs/09zmTnFgKA0KxqYUp1U7/image%20(175).png" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

To obtain a Material of the second group, you need to combine a **Quantum Chest** with a **Quantum Key.**

<div align="left"><figure><img src="https://content.gitbook.com/content/6kbcVlkhhuJRfUuLf7Tt/blobs/8JX0K6ar4wCVSyiugDII/image%20(176).png" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>

The recipes for obtaining the Materials can always be found in the tools we described earlier.

## **What are the odds of finding one material rather than another?**

Below, we present two tables showing the odds for Quantum Chests and for Quantum Chests plus Quantum Keys.

<figure><img src="https://content.gitbook.com/content/6kbcVlkhhuJRfUuLf7Tt/blobs/TupiozEMiMwxzUtrQXLs/image%20(177).png" alt=""><figcaption><p>Quantum Chest opening Odds</p></figcaption></figure>

At this point, you have all the tools needed to create your first Blend. Remember that NFTs have a **maximum mint limit**; once that limit is reached, no more NFTs of the same type can be created.

## **How do you get the Quantum Chests and Quantum Keys?**

**Quantum Chest:** Discord Bot, Web Game Missions

**Quantum Key:** Discord Bot

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://planetary-defense-guide.gitbook.io/guide/getting-started/what-is-planetary-defense/nft-blends.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
